SIMULACRA AND SIMULATION, Jean Baudrillard’s theoretical text concerning culture, reality, and simulation, is the title of the book Neo uses to keep his contraband. Carrie-Anne Moss sprained her ankle during the filming of the federal lobby scene but told no one at the time, even though she was unable to walk the next day. Moss appeared in the 1993 television show MATRIX, about a hit man working for the underworld. A musical theater piece by the Live Bait Theater group in Chicago (the Wachowski brothers’ hometown) called NEO: A MATRIX MUSICAL ran in May 2000. Producer Joel Silver called THE MATRIX "the first film of the new millennium." Talking about the making of the film, Fishburne compared the brothers Wachowski to the Brothers Grimm in their ability to tell fairy tales. Weapons expert Rock Galotti taught the cast how to realistically hold and shoot all the weapons in the film.

For ne'er-do-well compulsive gambler Slipper (Jackie Chan), there's only one thing more fearsome than debtors at his doorstep - having to coax a crying baby. But what if the baby becomes his golden goose to fend off his debtors? Can he overcome his phobia of diapers, milk bottles, and cloying lullabies?

Brought up in an impoverished family and kicked out of school in his teens, Slipper found himself on the wrong side of the tracks despite being nimble-footed and neat-fingered. Spurned by his family and hounded by debtors, he is goaded by his greedy landlord (Michael Hui) to collaborate in harebrained heists. Together with the agile and opportunistic Octopus (Louis Koo), the trio kidnaps BB, the grandson of a tycoon. However, due to some unexpected glitches, they fail to hand him over to the triad as planned.

With the assistance of an angelic nurse Melody (Gao Yuanyuan), the landlord's baby-crazy wife (Teresa Carpio) and Octopus' teenage fan Pak Yin (Charlene Choi), the macho men discover the joys of Rob-B-Hood. When they realize that the triad is after both the ransom and BB's life, they decide to make their hostage their protégée. Cornered by cops and threatened by ferocious gangsters, this trio of incorrigible merry men embarks on a hair-raisingly dangerous and deliriously funny escapade to put BB safely back in his cradle.

In FINAL DESTINATION 2, the basic notion of cheating mortality is further refined with an even more gripping plot provided by Eric Bress & J. Mackye Gruber, the duo behind the film BLUNT. Director David R. Ellis revels in film as an entertainment vehicle and the result is a no-holds-barred raucous good time. Death, however, didn't like being outwitted, and one by one the survivors died in freak accidents. The sole survivor was Clear Rivers (Ali Larter) who voluntarily checked into a padded room at Stonybrook Institute. FINAL DESTINATION II takes place on Flight 180's one-year anniversary. Kimberly Corman (A.J. Cook) is joyriding with some friends on Route 23 when she "sees" herself, her friends, and other drivers involved in a massive multi-car pileup. The scene is so artfully executed, it physically hurts to watch. She and police officer Thomas Burke (Michael Landes) save a group of people who would have otherwise died in the crash. But, as ever, death approacheth, taking the likes of Evan (David Paetkau), the Trans Am-loving lottery winner who puts up a good fight but is ultimately impaled on a fire escape ladder; and Tim (James Kirk), who almost chokes to death at the dentist and is later flattened by a piece of industrial glass. Clear Rivers busts out of the psych ward to help the remaining survivors pool their efforts and read the signs of impending death before it claims their lives.

Director Martin Scorsese returns to his trademark style with the violent, bruised, and bloody feature THE DEPARTED. Scorsese filched the basic storyline from Wai Keung Lau and Siu Fai Mak's masterful 2002 Hong Kong action film, INFERNAL AFFAIRS, which saw a policeman going undercover as a mob member and a mob member infiltrating the police force. Scorsese transfers the action to Boston, positioning Leonardo Di Caprio as undercover cop William Costigan and Matt Damon as undercover mobster Colin Sullivan. While Costigan and Sullivan get into plenty of nail-biting situations that almost reveal their true identities, Scorsese gradually unravels his strong supporting cast, including Jack Nicholson as Sullivan's mob boss, Frank Costello; Ray Winstone as Costello's meat-headed muscle; Mark Wahlberg as a hot-headed police sergeant; and Vera Farmiga as a love interest for both Damon and DiCaprio's characters. THE DEPARTED finds Scorsese generously dipping his toes back into waters that will be warmly familiar to his biggest fans. Rolling Stones songs pepper the soundtrack, recalling the remarkable "Jumpin' Jack Flash" sequence in MEAN STREETS; bullets and blood punctuate every key scene, bringing TAXI DRIVER's explosive finale to mind; and the mobster-themed storyline is a thrilling return to GOODFELLAS territory. Nicholson and Winstone provide acting master-classes every time they appear, neatly complementing the blossoming talents of DiCaprio, Damon, and Wahlberg, while further veteran support comes in small roles for Martin Sheen and Alec Baldwin. Scorsese is often criticized for affording precious little screen time to female characters, and THE DEPARTED won't quell those dissenting voices, although Farmiga's character proves to be more than a match for DiCaprio and Damon's posturings. But Scorsese followers who balked at his diversions into documentary filmmaking (NO DIRECTION HOME) and period epics (THE AVIATOR) will be delighted to find raw male machismo puncturing the screen once again in this frenetic entry into his celebrated oeuvre.

Never Expire is a small utility program that can be used to run time-limited programs beyond their expiration dates. The program is not intended to be used as an aid to software piracy, rather as a tool for allowing users to evaluate software over a longer period .

What's New In Version 2

This version of the program has undergone a number of significant changes. The following is a brief summary:

* Completely re-written using Borland Delphi. This creates a much smaller installation, typically less than 300K - saving users more than 500K of disk space! In addition, only a single executable program file is needed as the VB Runtimes are no longer required. This simplifies installation a great deal.
* Online help has now been added to the program.
* Displays are more consistent under different screen resolutions and with small/large fonts.
* Using Borland Delphi provides a somewhat more stable and efficient environment for the program. Although Win 95, 98 and NT users may see little benefit, the program should be far more stable under 3.x.
* Now provided in two versions. The Freeware version is fully functional and supports a list of up to 5 program items. The Shareware version supports up to 10 program items, does not display splash screens and provides control over several important program settings.
* Version 1 supported an unlimited list of program items. This was considered unnecessary since users will seldom need to work with more than 10 programs. Even if they do, they can simply make one or more additional copies of the program in a set of new subdirectories.
* The ability to edit dates has been removed in order to prevent users from making data entry errors. The program supports all dates through 1 Jan 1995 - 31 December 2010. Hopefully, there'll be a new version of the program before 2010!

Installation

Never Expire is provided as an a PKZIP archive. Simply create a subdirectory and UNZIP the file.

Running Never Expire

You can run the program in two basic ways:

1. Create a short cut to NOEXPIRE.EXE on your desktop (see Using AutoRun). Double-click on the short cut to start the program.

2. Locate NOEXPIRE.EXE using Windows Explorer. Double-click the mouse pointer above the file name to start the program.

How The Program Works

Never Expire changes the system date to fool a target application into thinking that it hasn't yet expired. It works like this:

1. Change the system date
2. Run the application listed in the Program List
3. Wait for a specified amount of time
4. Change the system date back to the correct value

The program can also restore the current path after changing to the working directory of your application.

Regional Settings

Unlike Version 1, this version of Never Expire does not need a special setting for the program to be able to distinguish between UK (DD/MM/YY) and US (MM/DD/YY) date formats.

IMPORTANT: Never Expire is not an aid for software pirates. This program is intended to extend the evaluation period of your programs, nothing more. Support for editing Unicode filenames. Finally, XYplorer supports inline renaming for filenames containing non-ANSI Unicode characters.

Warp speed through new "treeless browsing". Ever since, the Tree shows basically the same path as the Window Title, the Address Bar and the File List: If you change the current path by any of the numerous ways available in XYplorer, the Tree is automatically adjusted to the new location. Even, if you don't really need that service... The new toggle "Auto-Synchronize Tree" allows you to turn off the Tree temporarily. Here are some of the reasons for doing this:

(1) It offers a uniform maximum browsing speed that's totally independent of the nesting depth of the target locations. For example, if you quickly need to check size and version of a particular system file, it is totally pointless to expand the tree down to system32, because all you need is a quick glance at that file in the file list. Or, if you have a script that needs to visit some location -- why should the tree get busy here?

(2) It keeps the Tree in a stable state and position while browsing. For example, this can be valuable when collecting stuff from various locations via drag+drop into a couple of target folders -- no need to scroll the tree anymore: The Tree just sits there and waits.

(3) It makes consequent use of XYplorer's many ways of going to a new place: Address Bar, Tabs, Catalog, Favorites, History, Hotlist, Breadcrumb, GoTo, UDCs, Scripts, etc. ... they all work flawlessly without the Tree, and if you just need to go somewhere to work with certain items, you may well be completely uninterested in their position in the file system -- no need for a Tree to show you.
